More Flava In Ya Ear
June 8, 2008

Whenever the name Craig Mack is mentioned, it’s usually in relation to his 1994 hit single “Flava in Ya Ear” (or better yet the remix). Aside from this famous track, and for being the first artist signed to Bad Boy Records, Craig Mack began making a name for himself in 1988. At this time, he went by the alias MC EZ, and worked closely with a producer by the name of Troup.

The only official release from the duo was a 12″ on Fresh Records (also home to the legendary T La Rock, EPMD, and Just-Ice). “Just Rhymin’” is the main cut, while the more famous “Get Retarded” is featured on the B-side. While it doesn’t sound exactly like the Craig Mack made famous on “Flava,” you can hear the evolution of his style from 1988 to 1994.
MC EZ & Troup: “Get Retarded”
Craig Mack: “Flava in Ya Ear”
This is a record specifically made for the DJ…Meaning, it’s rare to come by a 12″ that gives you this much bang for your buck. While Craig Mack may not have lasted much longer than 1994, he provided some classic material along the way that shouldn’t be overlooked. It may take a little time to dig up this record, but if you happen to stumble across it, don’t hesitate…
