The Game (feat. Travis Barker): “Dope Boys”
Off The Game’s upcoming album LAX, scheduled for an 8/22 release. Is it me or is Travis Barker all the way in the hip-hop pool recently (i.e. Flo Rida, Soulja Boy, etc.)? Sounds fresh to me!

Kobe falls victim to Shaq-Fu
June 23, 2008
Kobe didn’t win a championship. Kobe cheated on his wife. And now, Kobe gets served up by Shaq. At some random club, Shaq gets on the mic with a freestyle, calliin out how Kobe couldn’t win a title w/o him and that he’s the one that broke up his marriage (snitch). Shaq even took a little shot at Patrick Ewing. It’s going to be fun watching this media war over the coming months.

June 23, 2008

Now I know the 80′s are in right now, but this is a whole different level of craziness…Here, Phonte channels a version of his alter ego Percy Miracles for a remix to the A-Ha classic. The funniest part though, is that this song is kind of nice…Yeah, I said it.
The entire project is a remix tribute to some of the 80′s classics. Apparently, only 2,500 copies will be pressed come July, so don’t sleep on this one.

Hip-hop Without the Middleman
June 20, 2008

There’s an interesting article over at Billboard, regarding major labels and their current involvement in hip-hop. Basically, it questions the significance of these majors and how they make (or don’t make) sense during these tough times for the music industry.
Currently, such acts as Jay-Z and 50 Cent are near the end of their long-term contracts, and are looking for the best available options. They have the option of re-signing a multi-album deal under the same house, with another label, or they can take the independent route.
