MC Serch Interviews Nas

MC Serch Interview w/ Nas

Many of you might only know MC Serch from The (White) Rapper Show or Miss Rap Supreme, but he really began to make a name for himself with the NY-based crew 3rd Bass.  The reason this interview holds a level of significance, is that Serch is supposedly the guy who first got Nas into the rap game.  Nas made his first official appearance on Main Source’s “Live at the BBQ,” but made an even bigger splash with his verse on MC Serch’s “Back to the Grill.”

Kinda fresh if you ask me…T.I.’s sixth solo album Paper Trail is scheduled to drop on September 9th, just in time for the Indian Summer.

Hellamagnetic MC’s

July 14, 2008

Lately, I’ve been on a real good one…For some reason, about every other week for the past two months I’ve come across some gems from the Ultramagnetic MC’s. First, it was “Give the Drummer Some” and “Ease Back” from their growndbreaking LP Critical Beatdown (1988). Next I came across “Make it Happen off Funk Your Head Up (1992), and “Raise It Up” from The Four Horsemen (1993).

Listening to these singles over again made me realize just how good this four-man crew really was. Complete with their unconventional use of samples (extra funky) and abnormal lyrical content, they definitely made a sound all their own. The first heavy-hitter single “Ego Trippin’” is still regarded as a hip-hop classic, and is widely noted as the song that put them on the map.

That being said, I would like to present a conglomerate of Ultramagnetic tracks, to let you know where I’m coming from. Peep game after the jump…

Gettin’ Up

Q-Tip: “Gettin’ Up”

Here’s the latest track off the forthcoming Q-Tip album The Renaissance.  Hopefully, this album will be released in the near future, because it’s been too long since Mr. Abstract dropped anything official.

New Large Pro?

Large Professor: “The Entrance”

Wow…I didn’t see this one coming.  Apparently, he has a solo album coming soon entitled Main Source, and this will be the first track.  Needless to say, I’ll be copping this LP on the release date and blasting it through my bass box.

Best Remixes Ever

July 8, 2008

Baaaad Boyyyy, come out to play-yaaaaaay…I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about remixes lately, and most importantly the best remixes yet.  This is a highly-debatable topic, because some people prefer remixes with hella rappers over the original beat, while others (myself included) lean towards entirely new production.  That being said, I tried to add a conglomerate of remixes that reign supreme in rap history, and hopefully most of you will agree with me.  So without further ado, I present the best remixes ever…

According to Aint it Cool, Wu-Tang’s own RZA is currently working on his first full-length film.  It’s called The Man With the Iron Fist, and will be a hardcore Kung-Fu flick produced by acclaimed horror director Eli Roth.  Here’s what Roth had to say about the film:

Yes, it is true. RZA’s script is amazing. He has been studying directing with Tarantino for years, and he’s really ready to get behind the camera.

So, a RZA Kung-Fu flick with help from Quentin Tarantino and Eli Roth?  This sounds like it could be the greatest film of all time…Well, next to The Dark Knight of course.

Trenchman

Raekwon: “Trenchman”

Another promising Raekwon track…If Only Built 2 sounds anything like his recent work, we should be expecting something incredible.

The above track is a golden era anthem off Diamond’s classic Stunts, Blunts, & Hip-Hop.  I didn’t even know this had a video…If you look carefully you will find some original D.I.T.C. members (i.e. Fat Joe).

I’m going to bite Diamond’s style for the weekend and carry around a hammer everywhere I go.  This way people will know I don’t play…

Fuck Clay Bennett

July 3, 2008

It was announced yesterday that the Seattle Supersonics will leave Seattle for Oklahoma City earlier than expected.  Next season, the entire team will be in OKC, which I’m sure they are thrilled about.  I bet the nightlife is CRAZY over there…

That being said, I’ve been a Supersonic fan my entire life and am hurting pretty bad over this.  This is the only professional team to bring a championship to the city, and has a foundation as great as all the primary organizations in the NBA.  Gary Payton?  Shawn Kemp?  Ray Allen?  Rashard Lewis?  I mean, come on…
