Beautiful Stuff Here…

November 14, 2008

I’m speechless…This is truly a rarity in 2008.  The above footage is from a recent show in the UK.  Definitely a beautiful day not only for hip-hop, but music in general.

Oh, and Nas fathers this whole thing.  When “Made You Look” comes on, the entire place lost their shit.  Or what about “Ms. Fat Booty?”  Bananas…

This is also further proof that Kanye doesn’t hold weight like these legendary MC’s…Is it me, or does he look a little out of place?  Note when Mr. West yanks the mic from Mos (as if he wants to rock it), how quickly he submits and hands it over when Nas approaches…“Oh, Mr. Nas!  I grabbed this for you sir.  Need anything else?  Want me to buy you some champagne too?” Ethered!

Props to DJ Symtex.

Shut Up (Again) Kanye

The Black Pee-Wee Herman

I hate to restate the obvious, but this guy really needs to know his role.  Here’s the latest statement from Kanye “Look at me!  I can be a hipster too!” West:

“I realize that my place and position in history is that I will go down as the voice of this generation, of this decade, I will be the loudest voice. It’s me settling into that position of just really accepting that it’s one thing to say you want to do it and it’s another thing to really end up being like Michael Jordan.”

Michael Jordan?  Please Yeezy…Ever heard of a guy named Jay-Z?  You know, the guy who put you on in the first place?  It’s obvious how late you were catching up with the hipster-trend (i.e. sweaters and tight jeans) and voice box (ala T-Pain), so please don’t go claiming originality or any type of other crowns.  You’ve spit in the face of hip-hop, and instead of growing the genre you turned your back on it.

I’m actually wishing 50 Cent won the battle last time…At least he’s stayed true to his music.

YEZZIR!  Above is the first single off Tronic.  For some reason, this video reminds me of a James Bond movie intro.

Check the Tronic review HERE.

It’s a Demo

November 12, 2008

Above is the first single from DJ Polo & Kool G Rap entitled “It’s a Demo” (1986).  I stumbled across this gem last weekend, and thought it should get a little love for this week’s Bass Radio.  This is Marley Marl production at it’s finest, and might be my favorite joint from him aside from “Marley Marl Scratch.”

15 Minutes of Fame Up

November 12, 2008

I knew it was only a matter of time before this goon lost his “hotness.”  Check this article over at HiphopDX, where Toure, the famous rap journalist, rips him a new one…We all knew Soulja Boy wasn’t the brightest, but ignorance like this deserves a slap in the face.

It’s called thinking outside of the box idiot…

Black M(ill)k

November 10, 2008

I was in Amoeba last weekend, on the hunt for some new music.  Aside from scoring the first Jungle Brothers LP Straight Out the Jungle, as well as the 12″ of Group Home’s Supastar, I wanted a new record to blast in my iPod.  I’d heard great things about the new Knux joint (review soon), so I figured I’d grab a copy there.  Turns out, they hadn’t received the shipment of these CD’s yet…What?

However, sitting next to the register was a shiny new copy of Tronic, the sophomore effort from Detroit beatsmith Black Milk (Fat Beats).  I’d been tripping so hard off that new Jake One, that I totally forgot about this release.  His debut Popular Demand was pretty dope, and I could see the potential there for hip-hop greatness..Needless to say, I kept it real.

Peep game below for my thoughts on Tronic..

Mos Def Hits Up Amoeba

November 10, 2008

That’s the spot for new CD’s!  Oh, and that Brazilian business sounds like I gotta take note…He copped a lot of the new stuff that I’ve been praising for months now too (Jake One, Large Pro).

Mayer Hawthorne

November 6, 2008

Damn…Killing it.  The above is a limited release of Mayer Hawthorne’s “Just Ain’t Gonna Work Out,” on red heart-shaped 45″, via Stones Throw Records.

From the site itself:

“Mayer Hawthorne is Stones Throw’s newest artist. His debut track “Just Ain’t Gonna Work Out” (aka “I’m Sorry”) premiered on Giles Peterson’s Best of 2008 (BBC Radio 1) a few weeks back…Hawthorne is from Detroit and now lives in Los Angeles. He wrote, played, recorded and sang on these tracks.

Not really hip-hop related, but noteworthy to fans of good music…Stones Throw continues to blow my mind.

November 6, 2008

This entry of Bass Radio is a throwback to Lootpack’s lead single off their Stones Throw debut Soundpieces: Da Antidote.  The entire record is full of gems (i.e. “Weeded”), so check it out if you’re not up to speed.  Early Madlib beats crack!  For some reason, the vinyl LP was going for like $20 when this initially dropped, so I skipped out…Definitely tripping.
