Ain’t No Future In Your Frontin’
February 11, 2009
For Bass Radio this week, I had to bring it back to the West. MC Breed made an undeniable classic with “Ain’t No..” and this is one single I’ve been trying to find on 12″ for a minute now. This shit knocks son!
Hit me up if you have a copy to spare..Hella serious over here.
Best Dilla Beats Ever
February 11, 2009

In celebration of Dilla Day, I thought I’d provide some throwbacks as example of Dilla’s genius. With that said, below are the top ten Dilla beats from My Bass Rocks (in no particular order). This was a tough one to narrow down, but a majority of them are solidified as the best from his extensive catalog. Check it out, and let me know if I missed any that should have made the list.
R.I.P. James Yancey
February 10, 2009

James “Dilla” Yancey (1974 – 2006)
Today marks the third anniversary of the passing of one of hip-hop’s greats. Jay-Dee is often regarded as the best producer in the history of the genre, and has one of the most impressive resumes in the game. From Slum Village to Pharcyde, James Yancey is responsible for a staggering amount of classics and is alive through the timeless music within his catalog.

A Tribute to J-Dilla
February 10, 2009
Above is a tribute to the late-great J Dilla. In recognition of Dilla-month, such famous Detroit underground personalities as Elzhi, Black Milk, and Guilty Simpson take a little time to reflect on the greatness of the legendary beatsmith.

Your Mom’s In My Business
February 6, 2009
Dope! Came across this one yesterday, and even though the A-Side skips a little, I’m not too mad. Oh, and my bad for the lateness on Bass Radio for this week. I’ve been hecka sick for like 5 days now.
Your mom’s in my business, she’s in my business, can’t you see girl? Your mom’s tryin to end this…
Crack a Bottle (Remix)
February 6, 2009

Eminem (feat. Bobby Creekwater & Cashis): “Crack a Bottle (Shady Records Remix)”
Pretty dope if you ask me…Big fan of the original, and even like this one too. Looks like Eminem is back!

The Way It Is
February 4, 2009

Here’s the latest from West Coast underground legend Aceyalone (aka Acey Uno). He last hit us with the reggae themed Lightning Strikes (2007), and now he’s taking it to the Doo-Wop sound with the above single.
I will always be down with Acey, but this sounds a little too Gnarls Barkley for my tastes. Nothing tops his first two albums All Balls Don’t Bounce and The Book of Human Language though. Westside classics!
Thanks Okay Player.
McDonalds Be Hella Urban
February 3, 2009

When your stomach starts rumbling, holla back?
Ok, so I wasn’t going to say anything about the above, but somehow I couldn’t resist. No disrespect to Nah Right as a site either, but I can’t seem to shake (get it?) this one. Today, the site has a full-on takeover with these ads covering every corner of the blog. I understand that we’re in a recession, and people need to do what they can to survive, but I can’t side with NR on this. McDonald’s has been on this whole “hip-hop” theme for quite some time now, and I find it pretty offensive to say the least.
Keep on to see what I’m talking about..
Breathe Thru the Years
February 3, 2009

Saigon: “Breathe Thru the Years”
Throwback Saigon before all the Joe Budden beef and label problems…I’m a big Saigon fan, and hope he gets the shine he deserves (sooner rather than later). Also, why can’t we get The Greatest Story Never Told? Record labels be hating…
Oh, this is off J. Cardim’s Favorite Rapper’s Favorite Producer mixtape.

Oooooooh
February 3, 2009

Raekwon (feat. Ghostface & Method Man): “Ooh”
More fire from the forthcoming Raekwon album OB4CL2, due out in spring. Everything so far points to a near-flawless sequel from The Chef, so don’t be surprised when I start screaming “classic!”
Props to Drake-Money.
