What!?

Like we always do here, it’s time to deliver another Bass Rocks top ten lists.  This time around, we concentrate on hip-hop’s greatest producers of all time.  Obviously the staples are included, but there are some definite surprises in the mix..But we’ll let you be the judge.

Peep game after the jump!

In the Trunk

March 19, 2009

One of the most classic tracks from The Bay, from one of its greatest artists of all time.  “In the Trunk” is $hort dogg at his finest, and stands as one of his biggest hits from his famous catalog (even though dude remained under the mainstream radar his whole career).

Oh, and what does Too $hort wash his sheets with?  Bleeeeeach!

Buggin’ Out ’09

March 18, 2009

Shouts to the multi-talented Rik Cordero on the direction tip!  Pretty hilarious video with solid verses from the GOOD Music crew (Consequence & Kid CuDi).  Cons gets the nod on this one, because him over Tribe beats is the way that the good Lord intended it to be..

Zulu Nation!

Lark On My Go-Kart

March 17, 2009

Asher Roth: “Lark On My Go-Kart”

Above is the current intro from his upcoming LP Asleep in the Bread Aisle.  Oren Yoel is the producer featured on a majority of the album’s tracks,  and seems to be taking Asher in a certain direction stylistically.  Sometimes the college-rap can get tiresome, but I am seriously interested in what the full-length will sound like in its entirety.

Album avalable April 20th.

Truth Be Told

March 16, 2009

Saigon: “Truth Be Told (Prod. Statik Selektah)”

From the upcoming mixtape All in a Days Work from Saigon & Statik Selektah.  Actually, this project drops online tomorrow, so I’ll be sure to have it up as soon as I get a copy…Reminds me of ’95!

2DB’s is on one today!

New Doom

March 16, 2009

DOOM: “Yessir (Feat. Raekwon)”

Presumably from DOOM’s upcoming album Born Into This, Raekwon assists on a DOOM beat, while the man himself doesn’t contribute on the rhyme-tip.  Maybe this is an earlier version without all verses included (ala first leaked version of “Crack a Bottle”)?

Not to say that this isn’t a decent effort, but the beat is just a slowed-down sample loop from ESG’s “UFO,” with literally no changes made (unless you count the off-beat scratches that sound terrible).  I know DOOM is better than this, so maybe I shouldn’t be expecting another classic.  Did he fall off since going MIA back in 2005?  Come on DOOM, you’re better than that!

Props to 2DB’s.

Get Money

March 12, 2009

In memory of the late-great Biggie Smalls, I thought this weeks Bass Radio should pay a proper tribute.  “Get Money” still knocks to this day, and will most likely remain classic as long as hip-hop lives.  The Coogi sweater is killing it!

Asher Roth’s Asleep in the Bread Aisle has been hyped for over a year now, and is finally getting around to reaching the shelves.  Mark your calendars for April 20th, 2009 (that would be 4/20) for Mr. Roth’s debut.  Here’s the track list:

Ice C.R.E.A.M. Paint Job

March 10, 2009

Dorrough Music: “Ice C.R.E.A.M. Paint Job (B. Cause Wu-Mix)”

B. Cause killed it with this one!  Much better than the original from Dorrough if you ask me.  Oh, and check the ice cream scraper above…

Via Diamonds in the Dust.

Too Soon

March 10, 2009

Joell Ortiz: “Too Soon (Biggie Tribute)”

Joell Ortiz hits the interwebs with his tribute to the late-great Biggie Smalls.  Of all the recent tribute tracks, this one is definitely the nicest.  The fact that Ortiz is still unsigned blows my goddam mind, and is proof that the music industry has its head up its ass.  Oh, and produced by DJ Khalil too (and surprisingly good!).

Props NR.
